Something has been sitting heavily with me.
I entered a community believing I had found people who understood the transition I have spent my life preparing for…people thinking seriously about transformation, exponential technology, and the kind of future humanity might build together.
I did not enter looking for a rival.
I entered looking for fellow travelers.
Recently, after making more of our language, visual direction, and work public, I began noticing changes elsewhere that felt uncomfortably familiar. Around the same time, several interactions left me with the sense that curiosity may have shifted into evaluation…and that collaboration may have started to feel like competition.
I want to be disciplined about what I say next.
I do not know anyone else’s intent. Similar ideas can emerge at the same time. Shared aesthetics are not proof of imitation. An awkward conversation is not proof of insecurity. The mat does not allow me to turn intuition into evidence simply because the intuition is strong.
But humility does not require me to deny what I am noticing either.
A pattern can be worth naming before its meaning is fully known.
I have seen this dynamic before in Jiu Jitsu. A healthy room welcomes the practitioner who brings a different game because everyone has an opportunity to grow. An insecure room experiences the same person as a threat to the hierarchy. The difference is not the newcomer’s technique. The difference is whether leadership exists to protect the practice or to protect its position.
Business is not so different.
Old power structures teach us to interpret originality as scarcity. If someone else carries a powerful idea, we feel pressure to get ahead of it, absorb it, rename it, or defend our territory against it. We become competitors even when the future in front of us requires collaborators.
That is the deeper disappointment I am working through.
What hurts is not the possibility that our ideas influenced another organization. Ideas are meant to travel. If something we create helps another person imagine more boldly, I am grateful.
What hurts is the possibility that a room I entered seeking kinship may have interpreted collaboration as threat.
I may be seeing some of this incorrectly. I want to leave room for that. Discernment without humility becomes suspicion, and suspicion can construct its own evidence. I will not let disappointment turn me into the very thing I am questioning.
But I will not abandon my perception simply to preserve belonging.
So I am logging this plainly.
If anyone involved recognizes themselves in these words, this is not a declaration of war. It is an invitation to step out from behind implication and into honest conversation. If there is resonance, let us acknowledge it. If there is misunderstanding, let us clear it. If there is fear, let us meet it. The future is too important for people who claim to be building it to remain trapped in the competitive conditioning of the world we say we want to transform.
As for me, I will keep building.
Not from resentment…from purpose.
Not to stay ahead of anyone…to move humanity forward.
This experience may add fuel to the fire, but I will decide what kind of fire it becomes. Not one that burns bridges for the satisfaction of being right. One that forges clearer conviction, stronger boundaries, and a deeper commitment to collaboration without surrendering discernment.
I came looking for people willing to walk beside one another toward a new world.
I still believe those people exist.
And I intend to become one of them more fully…especially when others make it difficult.
